Hair and Beauty
Hair and Beauty is studied only at KS4 as an option subject in our fully fitted, industry standard salon.
This is a popular subject which incorporates practical skills and assessments alongside in depth analysis of their industry.
We have selected the City & Guilds exam board as an industry leader with the hair and beauty sector. Along with believing it to be the most accessible in terms of the choice of topic and the most applicable to the real world of work Post-16 education.
The Level 2 Technical Award in Hair and Beauty Studies covers a wide range of topics

Exploring the world of hair and beauty - learners will understand the key features of the hair and beauty sector and how the sector has developed (history of hair and beauty)

Science of hair and beauty - learners will understand the chemistry of cosmetics and consider their uses within hair and beauty products, as well as the biology of the hair skin and nails.

Design in the hair and beauty sector - learners will understand the use of design in business, develop technical skills required to create a hair and beauty image. This unit requires learners to plan, create and evaluate an image for the sector.
This qualification is assessed via a synoptic assignment and external exam which are both completed in Year 11;

Beyond the classroom
Hair and Beauty have run successful trips to LUSH Lakeside and PROCAT and work closely with Post-16 provider JET Hairdressing who have run workshops at Woodlands School.
We hope to continue with a lunch club allowing pupils to explore the salon in Years 7 and 8 and gain some basic practical skills and an insight in to the GCSE option.
